Contact Lenses, Eyewear For The Active

February 13, 2013

It is rare when we see athletes like Kurt Rambis and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, two 1980-basketball stars of the LA Lakers, wearing glasses. Many people find that glasses are cumbersome in an active lifestyle; and what worked for Kurt Rambis and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar may not be the best solution for active individuals today, especially given the advancements in eye care since their time. While wearing eyeglasses didn't appear to hinder the careers of either star athlete, things would have been a great deal easier for them both if they had been wearing contact lenses.
Over the last 30 years, many advancements in contacts have made this eyewear solution a much more viable option for many athletes, as well as, active teens and adults. For many they are worry free - meaning no foggy lenses, no re-adjusting frames and no fear of dropping or breaking eyeglasses; and unlike eyeglasses, which often restrict the wearer's field of view, contacts offer natural, unimpaired vision, perfect for what ever sport or workout routine you choose.
Contact lenses have come a long way since the 1970's, with some of the most healthy and comfortable solutions developed within the last decade; however, that is not to say they don't need to be cared for and worn responsibly.
Eye doctors advise contact wearers to do the following:
  • Doctors strongly advise that patients do not sleep in their contacts to avoid the risk of eye infections
  • Always wash your hands before handling contact lenses, especially after a sports activity.
  • Contact lenses must be stored in their appropriate contact lens case.
  • Fresh solution must be used to clean and store contact lenses.
  • Use the lens solution recommended, not just what is on sale. Many times the recommended solution is more compatible with the type of contacts you wear
A more recent solution in the world of contacts are "daily disposable" contacts. If you are looking for a fresh lens feeling everyday, you should consider wearing daily disposable contacts. While you still have to be careful not to sleep in your lenses and be sure to wash you hands before handling the lens, daily disposable contacts provide the ultimate convenience by erasing the need for cases and contact solution. Brands like 1-DAY ACUVUE MOIST contact lenses offer exceptional comfort, no solutions and no hassles. Be sure to make the health of you eyes as much of a priority as you make the health of your body.
